A small group of INFRA staff had the pleasure of spending an afternoon volunteering at The Good Acre in early September. The Good Acre is Minnesota’s largest nonprofit food hub, connecting small-scale, primarily BIPOC farmers with the economic opportunities they need to thrive. Just one of the ways that The Good Acre connects farmers with the larger community is through their CSA program, which provides fresh and seasonal fruits and vegetables to Twin Cities residents. Our staff learned a lot about The Good Acre’s incredible work and packed 665 CSA shares filled to the brim with fresh cabbage, potatoes, kale, and other seasonal veg.

Katie Herrick, INFRA’s Communications Operations Specialist, coordinated the opportunity. She also worked with The Good Acre in her previous role at M Health Fairview, helping to execute food programming that increased community access to nutritious and healthy foods.
“I've had the privilege of working with The Good Acre at the intersection of agriculture, food access, and community health for several years, and have long believed that they're the epitome of what a just and sustainable food system could look like. I was so excited to share the love with my team at INFRA! Though we focus on different parts of the food system, we are working towards the same vision, and it was a true joy to share that work together for a day.”

Sarah Hovseth, Director of Development at The Good Acre expressed her appreciation for INFRA’s volunteer group, saying “Volunteers are critical at The Good Acre in fulfilling our promise to farmers and community members. Our programs ensure we can provide stable, equitable markets for our 120 farmers and food producers while increasing local food access. We would not be able to operate these programs without volunteers. Thank you!”
A big thank you to The Good Acre for allowing us to take part in this meaningful work for an afternoon! Opportunities like these allow us to re-center ourselves in our local community and uplift the crucial work of food producers. We hope to return again soon!
