Join the Independence Matters Movement: A Collaboration Between INFRA and The Cornucopia Institute

How do you meet the needs of an organic food shopper who wants credible, nuanced information in a hurry? We’re asking that very question at The Cornucopia Institute, and we believe the answer lies in collaboration.

Cornucopia exists to protect and strengthen an organic marketplace that is a refuge to a growing number of eaters. We work to ensure that the promises of the alternative food system we built together do not succumb to pressures of a pay-to-play system that rewards the largest producers.

Independent retailers throughout the US are some of our most important allies. They serve organic shoppers by providing access to healthy, whole foods, and they champion independently owned, authentic organic brands. Our goal is to give you and your customers more powerful, compelling ways to act on your values and strengthen the bond with your community.

INFRA is an important part of this story. As The Cornucopia Institute works to build a future where agriculture can help heal people and the planet, we value INFRA’s vision of thriving independent natural food retailers in communities across the US as a critical part of the solution. Together, our unified advocacy will protect the authenticity of our food supply and the nation’s best farmers from unfair competition.

Independence is a powerful counterforce to Big Ag’s race to the bottom in organic. An ecosystem of independent retailers and independently funded nonprofit advocates can disrupt the system in favor of independent, authentic organic brands. Our collaboration  will compel eaters to jump off the sidelines and invest in a food system that is integral to the health of their families, their communities, and the Earth.

Here’s how your store can join the Independence Matters Movement:

  • RSVP for the INFRA webinar on August 21 at 1 pm Central. Hear how your peers at Kimberton Whole Foods, Cornucopia Natural Foods, and Harvest Market are taking The Cornucopia Institute’s research and advocacy into their stores in an unprecedented way.

  • Look for Cornucopia’s Executive Director Melody Morrell and Deputy Director Michele Marchetti at this year’s INFRA conference. We look forward to forging new relationships, while continuing the rich conversations we’ve had with numerous INFRA members.

Contact us to share the Independent Organic Brand booklet at your grocer.
